Stocker to Schieder: “Anyone calling for a ban on combustion engines is also endangering 80,000 jobs in the same breath.”

Openness to technology instead of prohibition policy is the order of the day

Vienna (OTS) “Anyone calling for a ban on combustion engines is also endangering 80,000 jobs in the same breath. The Austrian automotive industry has built up great expertise in the field of combustion engines over many years. Now embarking on a political hussar ride towards a forced switch to pure electric mobility endangers the economic existence of these workers and that of their families. As a people’s party, we will definitely not take part in a job destruction program,” says the general secretary of the people’s party, Christian Stocker, about the SPÖ’s demand for a ban on combustion engines by its top EU candidate Andreas Schieder.

“The end of combustion engines is the opposite of progress. Rather, it is the height of narrow-mindedness. Demonizing promising technologies such as e-fuels and slowing down any technological progress in this area is simply irresponsible politics. “It’s actually frightening that nowadays people can’t even seem to agree unanimously on freedom of research and openness to technology,” concluded Stocker.
