Statement from AUVA on current media reports

Vienna (OTS) Current media reports claim that the fire protection deficiencies in the building of the Vienna-Brigittenau/Lorenz Böhler trauma center “have been known for 50 years” and that these were “deliberately ignored and thus put patients at risk”.

The AUVA strongly rejects these claims as incorrect.

Correct is:

As part of the planning work for a general renovation of the building in connection with the cooperation with the Elisabethinen and the Franziskusspital, the authorities requested an inventory survey. During the associated random check of fire protection in the summer of 2023, a fire protection expert again determined that the fire resistance corresponded to class F30.

It was only a further comprehensive inventory analysis of the entire building in January and February 2024, carried out at the request and in coordination with the authorities, that revealed the massively inadequate fire protection for the first time and made it necessary to react immediately and take appropriate measures. See also our OTS0018 from March 3rd this year.

The defects identified were not known up to this point.

Claims to the contrary are false.
