GUATEMALA CITY (ots/PRNewswire) – We welcome today’s move by the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to remove Mayaniquel from the sanctions list. As we publicly stated in December 2022, the decision to include Mayaniquel on this list was based on errors. Today, OFAC explicitly acknowledged that there are no grounds for listing Mayaniquel on the sanctions list. In addition, we stated in our December 2022 announcement that Mayaniquel has no ties, nor have such ties existed in the past, to any of the individuals, companies or corporate groups mentioned in today’s OFAC press release.
During the forced shutdown, Mayaniquel suffered significant economic and financial damage in Panzos, Alta Verapaz region, which we will claim.
