State Secretary Sepp Schellhorn today received the Egyptian candidate for the office of UNESCO general director, Prof. Khaled El-Enany, for a detailed exchange of views.
The focus of the conversation was current challenges and priorities within the framework of UNESCO’s multilateral engagement. Both sides emphasized the central role of the organization in a regular international order and underlined the importance of stronger focus on central future issues. From a Austrian point of view, this includes in particular the protection of freedom of expression and human rights, promoting gender equality, artificial intelligence, maintaining biodiversity and protecting the World Heritage Site.
State Secretary Schellhorn was pleased with the multitude of impulses that the visit to the future cooperation between Austria and Egypt brought in a multilateral framework.
