State government decides on cross-border kindergarten and school projects
St. Pölten (OTS) –

At today’s meeting, the Lower Austrian state government approved financial resources for the EU-INTERREG Education for Tomorrow projects amounting to over 2.6 million euros. The project is funded by the European Union with up to 80 percent. “Knowledge about the culture and way of life in neighboring countries promotes cross-border understanding. The earlier we start transferring this knowledge to children, the more peacefully the Central European region will be able to develop. The trouble spots in Europe and the world show how important it is to start understanding others as early as possible – in language, as well as in actions and deeds,” said State Councilor for Education Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister.

In Lower Austria, as part of the Lower Austrian Language Offensive, cross-border EU projects for learning the neighboring languages Czech-Slovak-Hungarian have been offered in around 130 schools and 79 kindergartens for 20 years. The activities implemented within the framework of language training and the promotion of intercultural and interregional skills have made a significant and positive contribution to the socio-cultural development in these border regions.
