Vienna (OTS) – From December 27th, 2023 to January 7th, 2024, the “Three Kings” bring the Christmas message of peace and blessings for the New Year. The Catholic Youth Group’s star singer campaign is taking place for the 70th time this year. The opening visit of Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar is traditionally Cardinal Christoph Schönborn – on December 27th, 2023, 9:00 a.m. in the Archbishop’s Palace, Wollzeile 2, 1010 Vienna (Register at elisabeth.holzner@dka.at).
Star singing – a success story for 70 years
Around 85,000 children and young people set out every year around the turn of the year to bring the Christmas message and blessings for the New Year. For 70 years, the star singer campaign has thrilled children, young people and adults across the country and impressively shows how much children and young people can make a difference. Since the star singer campaign began in 1954, 520 million euros have been collected for people in poor regions of the world. The Epiphany Campaign, the aid organization of the Catholic Youth Group, uses the donations to support around 500 aid projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America every year.
Star singing helps, for example in Guatemala
Solidarity aid is provided, for example, in Guatemala, where 60 percent of the population lives in poverty. Children and young people in particular suffer from poverty and exploitation, which often leads to them dropping out of school. But education is particularly important for secure future prospects. The Epiphany Campaign’s partner organizations actively support children and offer protection and support. Young people receive vocational training and thus opportunities for a secure future.
Royal reception in the Hofburg Am 30.12.2023 at 13:00 Royal delegations from all over Austria (and a group from South Tyrol) bring the Hofburg Hall of Mirrors to life. The visit to Federal President Van der Bellen is another highlight of the 2024 star singer campaign (see below for further appointments with the political celebrities).
