Start of the new “Tatort” season on September 15th with Krassnitzer, Neuhauser & the ORF premiere of the Austrian crime thriller “Your Mother”

Start of the new “Tatort” season on September 15th with Krassnitzer, Neuhauser & the ORF premiere of the Austrian crime thriller “Your Mother”

One of the most successful, but also most polarizing, forms of music today captivates the Austro duo Harald Krassnitzer and Adele Neuhauser when the two investigators mark the start of the new “Tatort” season on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 8:15 p.m Watch on ORF 2 and on ORF ON in the case of “Your Mother” – the first Austrian crime film in the series, for which Mirjam Unger takes a seat in the director’s chair – immerse yourself in the Viennese rap scene. An aspiring musician caught between highs, anxiety and cocaine addiction is found dead after leaving a gig early. There is no shortage of suspects in his environment: from the label owner, who was afraid of losing his cash cow, to the dead man’s best friend, who was taken advantage of by the victim.

In addition to Harald Krassnitzer (in his 58th case) and Adele Neuhauser (in her 34th case), Hubert Kramar, Christina Scherrer and Günter Franzmeier as well as Aleksandar Simonovski were again in Vienna (including in the Flex and in the Gasometer) for the new Austro crime thriller aka Yugo, Murat Seven, Salka Weber, Edita Malovčić, Tobias Resch, Kiara Hollatko aka KeKe and Hary Prinz in front of the camera. Director Mirjam Unger, who in the past was responsible for “Suburban Women”, “Days That Did Not Exist” and the country crime thriller “The Girl from the Mountain Lake” and worked as a music journalist for many years, as well as screenwriter Franziska Pflaum and screenwriter Samuel Deisenberger celebrated their “Tatort” debut with “Deine Mutter”. Further information about the film is available at presse.ORF.at.

“Tatort – Your Mother” is an ORF production, produced by Cult Film.

Harald Krassnitzer: “Sound of life and reality”
Harald Krassnitzer says about the new “Tatort” case “Your Mother”: “At the center of our story is a musician who talks in his songs about how he made it to the top all alone from precarious circumstances. But in real life he suppresses everything that is at the center of his music: namely his story, his origins, real life, real shit, as they always say. Our film doesn’t just rely on the groove of the music, but it looks behind the scenes and brings out a different sound: the sound of life and reality.” About rap: “It becomes clear that the inspector is with the gangster- Rap in its hedonistic version can’t do anything. Because it’s all about quick money, about becoming number one, which Eisner sees as small-minded and stuffy. But Eisner is also a fan. He is open to rap in its original, rebellious form.”
Adele Neuhauser: “Commissioners look at the scene with sympathy”
About the commissioners’ first points of contact with the hip-hop scene: “At the beginning they are already alienated. You have no idea about anything. You’re concerned with the murder case. They only understand later what dimensions the music has, how much heart and soul is in the lyrics and the criticism and anger that is conveyed. Towards the end, the inspectors are quite captivated by the music and look at the scene with sympathy. What I like about both of them is that they don’t completely isolate themselves because they think it’s all superficial nonsense. On the contrary, they get completely involved and even become fans.” And further: “Our crime thriller takes place in the Viennese hip-hop milieu, and at some point the idea came up that the inspectors would try their hand at rap. The film scene in which we rap is a dream sequence with its own ironic touch.”
Aleksandar Simonovski aka Yugo: “It’s definitely consistent”
Aleksandar Simonovski aka Yugo says about the image of the hip-hop scene in the film: “It’s definitely consistent. As an expert, I was allowed to give my two cents on almost everything. The authors tried to show hip-hop in the here and now, but also wanted to incorporate elements of the genre that were prime 20 years ago.” On his “crime scene” character: “Ted Candy is above all very popular with younger people. His fans almost adore him. He moves somewhere between new wave, i.e. Playboi Carti, Yeat, but also Lil Peep. It’s about money, love, the usual stuff. Ted Candy is definitely polarizing. But he also has a lot to contend with. A lot is hidden. On the one hand, his mother’s past and his relationship with her in general. He struggles with his feelings and can never express certain inclinations and desires publicly, as this would be very damaging to his image and would not be tolerated by his fans.”
