Start of the 19th season of “Soko Donau” with new addition Max Fischnelller on February 4th on ORF 1

13 new episodes, a farewell and a new beginning: The “Soko Donau” team will go into the 19th round from February 4th, 2025, every Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. on ORF 1, and on Monday, February 3rd , at 8:15 p.m. online first on ORF ON. All other episodes are available to stream on ORF ON seven days before their ORF 1 premiere. And while one is already looking forward to his debut, for the other the very last case is on the filming schedule: In the current season, from the second episode onwards, Max Fischneller follows forensic scientist and forensic scientist Franz Wohlfahrt (Helmut Bohatsch) in the role of forensic scientist Julius Rubatsch , who has been with the ORF 1 long-running crime series since it started and is leaving the series with the opening episode at his own request. The new addition is supported by the proven team of Lilian Klebow (since season I), Maria Happel (since season VI), Brigitte Kren (since season XIV), Andreas Kiendl (since season XV) and Martin Gruber (since season XVII). Season 19 was directed by Sophie Allet-Coche, Olaf Kreinsen and Katharina Heigl based on scripts by Sarah Wassermair, Natalia Geb and Sönke Lars Neuwöhner, Andreas Quetsch and Frank Weller, Markus Staender, Peter Dommaschk and Ralf Leuther, Martin Muser and Jens Schäfer, Michael Grießler, Sigrid Neudecker as well as Eva Testor and Eva Spreitzhofer. The 13 new episodes were filmed in Vienna, Klosterneuburg, Zwentendorf, Pöllau and Graz.

Max Fischnaller: „It’s a dream come true!“

Max Fischler describes his role as “very ambitious and ambitious, he sometimes doesn’t slow himself down enough, is a bit impetuous. But still lovely, personable and friendly. Only sometimes he lacks certain social antennae. He sometimes doesn’t notice when his knowledge or explanations are too extensive.” And further: “He has to learn to find his way around the team and get involved in teamwork. Recognize that it’s not a solo gig, but that you really have to work together – coordinate well in the lab and make certain compromises. Sometimes the old meets the new, with new ideas or approaches – and you have to find a common path. His work is the first big task for him and he is learning to recognize the seriousness behind it. You’re no longer studying, you’re no longer in a crash test simulation. It’s time to get down to business!” Also: “It’s great how much trust people have placed in me. I had a lot of freedom in shaping my roles. To be able to grow into and be a part of a format that has existed for such a long time with such a great fan base is amazing – It’s a dream come true!”

Outlook for the 19th season

A case that particularly challenges the “Soko” team’s skills in combination is on the roster right at the start of the season: Lukas Brandt, a member of a small family burglar gang, is shot. Small fish. But unfortunately they were in the wrong place at the wrong time and got in the way of another gang. Klaus (Andreas Kiendl), Max (Martin Gruber) and Penny (Lilian Klebow) have divergent theories as to how the murder occurred – all of them make sense, but lead to completely different results. It is Wohlfahrt (Helmut Bohatsch) who uses his sharp mind to put all the theories together – and thus solves his very last case with his colleagues from the “Soko Donau”. In his place comes the young Julius Rubatsch (Max Fiwickeler), a native of South Tyrol and a passionate scientist, who succeeds him with energy and youthful self-confidence.

The “Soko” team, led by Colonel Henriette Wolf (Brigitte Kren), once again investigates in a wide variety of environments, has to deal with a supposedly noble imposter, delves into the disturbing world of conspiracy theories and comes across a forest near Klosterneuburg on a freshly dug grave without a body. A clumsy but romantic young gangster couple puts the investigators in trouble, and things get particularly exciting for the team when they are called to a murder case at the Zwentendorf nuclear power plant and find themselves briefly transported back to the 1980s.

Max Fischler as new addition Julius Rubatsch

31-year-old Max Fiwickeler, a South Tyrolean and Lower Austrian by choice, who appeared in front of the camera for the Tyrolean ORF country crime drama “The Dead in the Gorge” in autumn 2022, will take on the role of 30-year-old Julius on “Soko Donau”. Rubatsch. A native of South Tyrol, who lives in Vienna and, after studying chemistry and technology, is now taking up his first permanent position as a forensic scientist. His enthusiasm for science has always been unbroken, and despite – or perhaps because of – his five siblings, he has always preferred to keep himself busy, explore the area and discover something new and interesting.

Completely true to himself, but often a little off. Sympathetic and yet a little distracted. Because even if Julius is not a typical loner, he doesn’t care about his effect on others. He is direct, asserts his place in life, is endowed with youthful self-image and (re)acts perhaps not always entirely appropriately in the eyes of others. Especially at work or at a crime scene, he talks uncontrollably about what’s going on in his head – and that’s usually a lot. Chaotic and perhaps sometimes socially awkward, but ambitious, interested in many things and full of energy. A jack of all trades who can also get bored quickly. Franziska Beck (Maria Happel) and Julius don’t just share a passion for science. They also both love the particularly tricky crossword puzzles and quickly grow together as a scientific dream team.

The 19th season of “Soko Donau” is a production by Satel Film in collaboration with ORF and ZDF, produced with the support of FISA+, Fernsehenfonds Austria, the state of Lower Austria, the Cinestyria Filmcommission and Fonds and the Film Commission Graz.
