According to the motto “Get out of the asphalt”, the Süßenbrunner place in the Donaustadt becomes a climate -wide Grätzloase! The large area behind the church in the center of Süßenbrunn has so far been mainly used as a parking space and currently offers little quality of stay. With tomorrow’s start, the space is painted over a large area and equipped with spacious green areas as well as numerous seating and refreshing options. By the end of November 2025, the Süßenbrunner Platz will be transformed into a central meeting point for young and old, where people are happy to linger and enjoy the newly created, natural atmosphere.
“We clear and green places and streets all over the city – according to our motto:” Get out of the asphalt “. I am pleased that we have redesigned 344 projects in all 23 districts since the last legislative period. We have already implemented many great projects in the Danube city, Wagramer Straße has received a decent facelift, is part of our Radhighway Nords and was equipped with 100 new trees. Vienna’s first street park will soon be completed with a length of 250 m. And with the Süßenbrunner Platz, the next highlight project is now coming to which I am looking forward to, ”said planning councilor Ulli Sima.
District head Ernst Nevirvy adds: “Finally, the construction work for the redesign of the Süßenbrunner Platz begins and I am sure that the Süßenbrunnen will be enthusiastic! With the extensive greening, the many seating and refreshment options, the place gets everything that is needed so that you feel comfortable here. created to set up May or Christmas trees.
“We create spaces of the encounter, exchange and cooperation. With the redesign of the Süßenbrunn Square, we break new life in a veteran place: We break up gray concrete surfaces, generously, create climate in good time with shadows and seating. As a Donaustädter, I particularly pleased this project: 15 years ago we have delighted a citizen in the needs of the needs. Süßenbrunnen to enter.
Green lounge areas in Grätzl
To ensure cooling and a pleasant microclimate on the square, 24 new trees are planted. In addition, spacious green areas with a total area of around 1,300 square meters are created. These consist of flowering, species -rich perennial beds and easy -care lawns and give the square a lively, varied appearance. Five pergolas, some of which are greened with climbing plants, offer beneficial shade and create attractive residence zones right from the start. In addition, around 16 seating furniture is available over the entire space to create a pleasant atmosphere for encounter, relaxation and community.
Cool wet revives the space
A special highlight is the new water feature in the middle of the square. This is supposed to remind of the former Rossschwemme in the square. A combination of drinking fountain and open water channels ensures cooling on hot days and contributes to the revival of the square. Another identity-creating element is the newly created installation option in the center of the square, which can be used for May or Christmas trees and thus enriches different occasions all year round.
Large -scale distas and accessibility
The previous sidewalks and lanes around the square are renewed. At the same time, the road drainage is completely revised in the course of the redesign so that rainwater can drain off without any problems. The asphalt surfaces in the middle of the square are replaced by an appealing paving. This creates a bright, friendly surface. Rainwater can thus seep away better, which provides the surrounding trees valuable water and at the same time relieves the sewage system. Some sidewalk surfaces are also replaced by seepage -capable pavement, which results in a harmonious overall picture. The bus stops on Süßenbrunner Hauptstraße and on Süßenbrunner Platz will be reorganized and carried out barrier-free in order to make the entry and exit for all passengers easier. As a result, a total of around 700 square meters will be sealed.
Upgrading for young and old
The space is also becoming more attractive for the youngest visitors: two new play equipment in the green areas invite you to romp and discover and create additional exercise offers for children. In addition, the space is equipped with bicycle parking systems and thereby supports the climate -friendly mobility.
At a glance
A total of around 2,000 square meters are sealed in the project area. In the future, 16 seating furniture and five pergolas offer many opportunities to relax, chat, read a book in the shade of the 24 new trees or to watch performances in the middle of the square. The place will shine in new splendor by the end of the year.
Get out of the asphalt record record
The out of the asphalt projects brought a record balance with 344 projects in all 23 districts in the past legislative period 2020-2025. 3,316 trees were planted, 2,745 seating was built and almost 2,000 square meters of water play created. With the historical greening offensive in Vienna, the Grätzl experienced a massive improvement in the microclimate and thus an upgrading of the quality of life.
