Start for preparatory work of the replacement bridge
St. Pölten (ots) –

The Stein-Mautern Danube Bridge is in a very poor overall condition despite regular repair work. There is currently a temporary semi -sided lock in the area of the structure 5. Traffic is handled with a maximum efficient traffic -dependent traffic light control and residual duration. The Lower Austria road service works with high pressure on a renovation concept.

The comprehensive repair of the bridge is carried out in several construction phases in such a way that a continuous flow of traffic should remain guaranteed. Today, on June 23, the preparatory measures for the construction of a replacement bridge over the Danube begin. Work is carried out to prepare for assembly space and dams with resistance on the B 3 and B 33 are built so that the dams can sit down well.

Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner says: “The current situation shows how urgently the renovation of the bridge and the establishment of the replacement bridge is. It is high time that the replacement bridge for the Danube bridge Stein-Mautern is implemented. The makeshift bridge will ensure that during the construction phase the connection via the Danube is preserved for the population and businesses.” Lower Austria Traffic Council LH deputy Udo Landbauer: “The renewal of the listed Danube bridge Stein-Mautern, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, represents a project of the century with an investment volume of over 130 million euros.

Details on the preparatory measures: The future assembly point is located on the eastern outskirts of Mautern on the Danube. The work on the assembly area includes the humus removal and its storage as well as the implementation of all necessary measures and the necessary soil exchange (installation of a load distribution layer made of grain material).

Special transport ramp: In the area of the Treppelweg on the right Danube side, the future ramp for the necessary special transports for the transport of the individual structures will be built for assembly space. The connection to the B 33 is only temporarily to enable construction site operation.

Ramps Reflagers B 3 and B 33: To maintain traffic during the repair work of the existing bridge object B33A.02, make -up bridges are to be built via the B 3, B 33 and a replacement bridge over the Danube. For the time being, the abutments are built on the B 3 and the B 33 and the street dam will be manufactured after the new abutment.

The preparatory measures will be completed at the end of 2025. The start of construction for the construction of the replacement bridge is planned in 2026. The existing bridge is blocked and repaired after the replacement bridge is completed. The Lower Austria road service thanks all road users for their understanding during the construction work.
