The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management (BMLUK) specifically supports the preservation of the biological biodiversity in Austria and has launched 2 funding calls with a total volume of 7.5 million euros.
Agriculture, environmental and climate minister Norbert Tettschnig: “In terms of biodiversity in agriculture and forestry thanks to our companies, the funding calls are a series of success and with the current calls we set another milestone for the preservation of our valuable variety of biodiversity. Thanks to the active cultivation by our farmers, the preservation of biodiversity is also possible within the framework of the agricultural and forestry. with that our country remains so worth living. “
In agriculture, it is already the 5th funding call to biodiversity, which includes a volume of 4.5 million euros. In the current call, projects with a project expense limit of 400,000 euros or 650,000 euros for projects with demonstrable implementation focus can be funded. The submission period runs until October 13th, 2025.
The second funding call supports biodiversity in Austria’s forests, comprises a volume of EUR 3 million and is already the 4th funding call for biodiversity projects, which is financed from the forest fund. As a subordinate to funding, EUR 100,000 and, as a funding limit for projects, 500,000 euros will be determined in eligible project costs. The submission period runs until September 19, 2025.
Agriculture and forestry and biodiversity hand in hand
The funded projects are intended to create habitats for pollinators and cultural birds and improve carbon storage in agriculture. The focus is on the preservation and restoration of species-rich meadow and pasture surfaces, the enabling of a side by side of yield-related and biodiversity-promoting management, living space networking through biodiversity-promoting elements such as wasteland and flowering areas as well as landscape elements and the ecological improvement of the water balance.
In promoting forestry, projects such as monitoring, case studies, or basic work on biodiversity -related topics, project -related support activities in connection with the initiation, planning and implementation of complex nature conservation projects can be submitted. This can affect forest biodiversity monitoring and management, for example. In addition, targeted public relations work and consciousness formation should be carried out.
