Artist and designer Samuel Ross found his unique creative perspective defined through art by developing architecture for the body. With his two companies A-COLD-WALL* (founded in 2015) and SR_A (founded in 2019), he has created a distinctive design language that finds expression in impressive, radical collaborations with which he has been able to attract a global, demanding audience. With his European atelier SR_A, which he founded the same year he was awarded the Hublot Design Prize, Ross has developed a new millennial perspective in luxury goods, art and fashion.
On the occasion of the watch manufacturer’s 40th anniversary in 2020, the artist presented the sculpture REFORM. This inspired the design of the Big Bang Tourbillon Samuel Ross, the first watch that Samuel Ross and Hublot designed together. The model reflects the artist’s love of colors and strict geometric shapes, but above all his passion for the fusion of materials that play a predominant role in the work of both Ross and Hublot.
The new Big Bang Tourbillon Carbon SR_A by Samuel Ross, presented at Miami Art Week in 2024, is the latest successor to this groundbreaking timepiece. After the artist had worked with orange and green tones in the two previous models, this time he decided to redefine the materials used and at the same time introduce a new chromatic variant in which the color blue is the focus.
The Big Bang’s signature case maintains its 44mm diameter and 13.75mm height and features a honeycomb pattern in a new gray finish that also extends to the movement. This look is effectively underlined by the double finishing of the bezel – satin finish on top, shiny glass bead blasted on the side – and rounded off by hands and hour indices in a dark and a light shade of blue. The lighter shade of blue can also be found on the crown cover. The case sides at 3 and 9 o’clock as well as the bezel sides are made of matt gray carbon; the dial is made of sapphire crystal. Like the two previous models, the Big Bang Tourbillon Carbon SR_A by Samuel Ross is powered by the in-house caliber HUB6035. The 264 components of this automatic movement include a microrotor and, of course, a skeletonized tourbillon visible at 6 o’clock. The power reserve is 72 hours. The flexible rubber strap is in the same dark blue as the minute hand and hour indices and is perforated with the same honeycomb motif as the case. The bracelet can be easily adjusted with the newly designed clasp.
The new Big Bang Tourbillon Carbon SR_A by Samuel Ross is available in an edition of only 50 pieces. Each watch comes in a specially designed collector’s box.

Samuel Ross’ career to date
Samuel Ross has received numerous awards including inclusion in the Forbes 30 under 30, three British Fashion Awards, the GQ Fashion Award, the Hublot Design Prize, an honorary doctorate for his services to the arts and, in 2024, an MBE for his services to the arts the fashion.
Samuel Ross’s art objects and clothing are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Samuel Ross’ exhibitions have been shown at White Cube and Friedman Benda.
Ross’ long-standing collaboration with the late Virgil Abloh, whose first design assistant he was, is well documented.

HUBLOT
