Spring wage round – unions tighten pace in the electrical and electronics industry

Second round of collective agreement interrupted without result, works council conference on April 10th in Vienna

Vienna (OTS) The second collective agreement negotiation for the approximately 60,000 employees in the electrical and electronics industry (EEI) was interrupted on April 5th without any result. The employers have not submitted any offer for wage and salary increases. The inflation rate relevant to the negotiations is 6.8 percent. The PRO-GE and GPA unions are therefore convening an Austria-wide conference of works councils at the ÖGB headquarters in Vienna on April 10th to jointly decide on how to proceed.

“We are calling for a decent increase in income for employees and a significant increase in apprentice incomes. We will now step up the pace with the works councils. We are ready to fight together with the workforce for a sustainable increase in wages and salaries,” say the two chief employee negotiators, Reinhold Binder (PRO-GE) and Karl Dürtscher (GPA). Work meetings could take place before the next round of negotiations on April 22nd. In any case, the necessary resolution will be discussed with the works councils on April 10th.

In addition to sustainable wage and salary increases, the unions are also calling for improvements to the legal framework. This includes easier access to the sixth week of vacation. The anniversary bonus should be redesigned and it should also generally be possible to convert it into free time. It should also be possible to exchange part of the actual wage/salary increase for a week of free time. For skilled workers who have completed an apprenticeship, dual vocational training must be treated equally with higher vocational schools.

The new collective agreement should come into force on May 1, 2024.
