Support for the demands of the Ombudsman – the minister must finally take the OGH ruling seriously
Vienna (OTS/SK) – “It’s slowly becoming a never-ending story,” said SPÖ family spokeswoman Petra Wimmer and Ombudsman spokesman Rudolf Silvan, commenting on the recent criticism of the harassment surrounding childcare benefits, this time from the Ombudsman’s Office. “One judgment follows the next, but they all bounce back from Family Minister Susanne Raab. She continues to resist changing the illegal and anti-family approach to childcare allowance.” ****
The hurdles that families sometimes have to complete is an unreasonable expectation, criticizes family spokeswoman Wimmer: “The Ombudsman reports on families who have to wait years for their money. This is an intolerable situation that the self-proclaimed family party ÖVP should also recognize. The SPÖ has pointed out these grievances and problems with childcare benefits in a large number of parliamentary motions. It is the primary task of a family minister to stand up for families and not to put additional obstacles in their way.”
Ombudsman spokesman Silvan also sharply criticizes the minister’s inaction: “After the Supreme Court rulings and the established violation of European law, what else is needed to get the family minister to act?” In its criticism, the Ombudsman describes how little international cooperation there is between authorities Instructions from the Minister. The responsibility is simply passed on to parents. Wimmer and Silvan summarize their appeal: “Minister Raab should finally do her job and implement improvements in the interests of the families!” (End) ts/ls
