SPÖ-Schieder: Roaming fees will finally be completely buried in 2029

Gigabit infrastructure regulation heralds the final end of unjustified fees and broadband expansion

Vienna (OTS/SK) Yesterday the EU Parliament and EU member states reached an agreement on the Gigabit Infrastructure Regulation. SPÖ-EU delegation leader Andreas Schieder says: “The day of death of unjustified fees for surfing and making calls in other EU countries is certain. Although we have to wait a few more years, until then they will at least remain capped at a low level. In any case, no one will mourn these roaming charges. A further decision by the EU Commission will be necessary for the final outcome, but we will certainly remind the executive authority of this in the next legislative period. Because these are successes that people in the EU feel directly in their everyday lives and make a Europe growing together concrete.” ****

In addition, the regulation brings simplified procedures for the expansion of fast fiber optic and 5G networks. Schieder: “Fast internet must be the standard throughout Europe. Here the gaps between the Member States and between rural and urban areas are still far too great. Ultimately, companies, communities and consumers benefit from simplified procedures.” (Conclusion) ls
