SPÖ-Krainer to Kocher and Brunner: Fighting fake companies alone is not enough

ÖVP continues to systematically favor the super-rich and corporations

Vienna (OTS/SK) SPÖ finance spokesman Krainer assesses the draft presented today to combat tax fraud as follows: “Taking action against bogus companies is welcome. The government expects revenue of 30 million euros for the budget. But the tax evasion through tricky evasion structures and ÖVP favoritism is worth billions.” Krainer emphasizes: “The problem with the ÖVP is that it only wants to fight tax fraud in its Sunday speeches. From Monday to Friday it hinders the tax officials in their work. The fact that the ÖVP leadership in the BMF systematically favors the super-rich and corporations is a fact that we have seen without a doubt in the investigative committees,” says Krainer. ****

The SPÖ finance spokesman points out that the tax administration itself has carried out a detailed review of what structural and personnel improvements are needed so that the tax authorities do not find themselves in a losing position when examining the super-rich with their complicated tax structures from affiliated companies and foundations .

The two-year project was completed in December 2018 with concrete legislative and organizational proposals – however, the final report disappeared into a drawer in the ministry management and only resurfaced in the COFAG investigative committee. A project manager at the large business auditing department (today: the tax office for large companies) did not understand why the report was completely ignored. (End) wf/up
