on January 5, 2025 – “As of today, it is clear that the ÖVP has repeatedly misled the population and lost any claim to credibility,” says SPÖ club chairman Roland Fürst about the latest domestic political developments. First, a budget debacle of historic proportions was kept quiet until the election, and now the election promise never to form a coalition with the Kickl-FPÖ has been thrown overboard. “This threatens the population with a new version of a policy that cuts corners on pensions, salaries and health, while the corporate bosses and ‘eagles’ of this republic benefit. We in Burgenland will defend ourselves against this with all our might and continue to pursue a policy that serves all people and not just a few privileged groups,” said Fürst.
It is also clear that the ÖVP wants to work exclusively with the FPÖ at all levels and will also make Norbert Hofer state governor in Burgenland if the math works out. “Only a direct vote for Governor Hans Peter Doskozil can prevent this realistic scenario,” said Fürst. In any case, the days of chaos in Austria would continue, warns the SPÖ club chairman: “It is all the more important that in Burgenland, with Governor Hans Peter Doskozil, we guarantee a policy of security and stability that we will continue to stand for in the future.”
