SPÖ-Holzleitner welcomes the ECJ ruling on violence against women

“Important judgment in terms of the Istanbul Convention”

Vienna (OTS/SK) In a ruling yesterday, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled that women from third countries can receive protection in the EU because of domestic or other violence. SPÖ women’s spokesperson and deputy. Club chairwoman Eva-Maria Holzleitner welcomes this decision: “The ECJ has made an important judgment here in the sense of the Istanbul Convention. In the future, women will be able to flee suffering and violence and find protection in the EU.” ****

Holzleitner states that protection from violence should be considered all-encompassing: “Every woman who has to live in a violent relationship is one too many – no matter which country she lives in. We must therefore view protection from violence internationally and give women the protection they need and enable them to escape violence. The judgment of the European Court of Justice shows that those affected are taken seriously in the unfortunately often dire realities of their lives and is now finally opening up new opportunities for them to escape from them.” (Conclusion) ts/up
