In yesterday’s district council, the two applications from the SPÖ Hernals for the construction of two 30 zones, in the inner Hernalser Hauptstraße and in Jörgerstrasse, were accepted with a large majority.
“We are very pleased that our two applications have been given to such great approval. With our demand for the establishment of these two zones, we not only take up the desire of many Hernalser for more traffic safety and the associated noise reduction, but also set the course for the best possible organization of construction site traffic in the course of the U5 construction work,” says district leader Jagsch.
Both for the inner Hernalser Hauptstraße and for Jörgerstrasse, the conditions for a general run will change in the course of the construction site work of the U5 on Elterleinplatz. Measurements already show an average speed of only around 33 km/h – a clear sign that speed 30 is realistic and useful. The aim is to organize the traffic and safely through the district and at the same time to improve the quality of life of the residents.
“The U5 is not only a central project for Vienna, but also for Hernals a great opportunity to further develop our district sustainably. Of course, it is also: Such a construction site demands all of us. It is all the more important that we shape this change together – with consideration, in view and with the aim of further improving living together in hernals,” continues Jagsch.
Tempo 30 is not an ideological project, but a pragmatic measure: “Less speed means more security – especially for children and the elderly. Less pace also means less noise, better air and more in quality of life. In a growing district and afterwards, this is also a profit for everyone. Because cohesion also means considering each other – this also applies in road traffic,” says Jagsch in conclusion. (Ending)
