ÖVP Finance Minister Brunner has to put all the numbers on the table in the special budget committee
Vienna (OTS/SK) – The budget and finance spokesmen for the SPÖ and NEOS – Jan Krainer and Karin Doppelbauer – are demanding a cash collapse from ÖVP Finance Minister Brunner. After the economic research institutes, the EU Commission and the current monthly reports on budget implementation document that the government has lost control of the budget, the two opposition parties are calling for a special budget committee. The cash collapse committee should meet within ten days, the finance minister must put all the figures on the table and answer questions from parliament, according to the demands of the SPÖ and NEOS. ****
“The budget approved by the governing parties last year has the value of waste paper. The government has undercut all assumptions about economic development, revenues are lower, expenses are higher, and at the same time the government is issuing one bad check after another. Voters have a right to know in the voting booth what will happen to them after the election,” says the SPÖ budget and finance spokesman.
“We are sitting on a record mountain of debt and are faced with public finances that are completely out of control,” says Karin Doppelbauer, joining the call for a special budget committee. The NEOS finance and budget spokeswoman warns that the other parties could add billions in election sweets to their already huge debt backpack by autumn. “The next government has the thankless task of cleaning up after this government and putting budget policy back on a sustainable path that complies with EU fiscal rules. A collapse in cash and rapid budget consolidation are essential so that the young are not completely swallowed up by the debt that the federal government leaves them.” (End) wf/pok
