Spectacular sports documentary premiere on ORF: “Marco Schwarz ComeBLACK – in the shadow of triumph”

On March 1st at 8:15 p.m. on ORF 1, men’s giant slalom from Aspen live from 8:50 p.m

Vienna (OTS) Shortly before the turn of the year, Marco Schwarz’s ski season ended on the descent from Bormio. A serious fall on the Stelvio not only shattered “Blacky’s” dreams, but also ruined the duel for the overall World Cup that many ski fans had longed for.
In the spectacular TV documentary “Marco Schwarz ComeBLACK – in the Shadow of Triumph” Marco Schwarz will be accompanied on his way back to the Ski World Cup on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 8:15 p.m. on ORF 1. In exclusive film sequences, the 28-year-old all-rounder from Carinthia provides insights into the mental life of an exceptional athlete, which show why he is probably Austria’s greatest hope for the 2025 home World Cup in Saalbach.

Part 1 of this multi-part documentary, which was produced by Ski Austria with the support of UNIQA and ORF, will be broadcast for the first time before the second round of the men’s World Cup giant slalom in Aspen (live on ORF 1 from 8:50 p.m.). The film was directed by Max Foidl, who was nominated twice for the ROMY for his documentary projects with Dominic Thiem. On the part of the ORF, the project is accompanied and supervised by chief director Michael Kögler. The impressive opening documentary shows the first moments after the fall, Marco Schwarz’s handling of setbacks and pain as well as the first intensive comeback weeks with rehab buddy David Alaba. Other contributors include Marco Odermatt, Manuel Feller, Marc Girardelli, Claudio Huber, Christian Fink and Angelika Schwarz.

But the visually powerful documentation brings one thing above all to light:
“Still waters are deep!” Marco Schwarz may sometimes appear unspectacular to the outside world due to his calm skiing style, but the intimate insights into the life of the opinionated and strong-willed ski racer show an impressive and profound personality that does not serve the classic hero narrative. His palpable love for ski racing, bizarre peculiarities, his family’s compassion and the unfiltered view of companions and rivals move the eight-time medalist far away from the cliché of an egocentric loner.

“Marco Schwarz ComeBLACK – in the shadow of triumph” paints a fascinating picture of an impressive athlete and shows how much willpower, patience and small steps are necessary so that the big leap can be achieved at some point.
