As part of a large Austria-wide event, the starting signal for the SPÖ intensive election campaign for the 2024 National Council election was given today. 700 visitors came to the large event under the motto “For your better Austria” on the Kaiserwiese in Vienna’s Prater – the nationwide start to the intensive phase was via Broadcast live stream to all nine federal states.
SPÖ Vienna State Party Chairman Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig emphasized at the event: “Everywhere where social democracy rules, people are doing better – in Vienna, the most livable city in the world, we see clearly what a difference responsible politics makes. We want to achieve a strong result for the SPÖ in this election again in order to improve the quality of life of people throughout Austria as a social democracy. Therefore, the Vienna electoral machinery will definitely be running at full speed again in the final sprint – side by side for social cohesion and a social democratic Chancellor Andi Babler!”
The focus of the evening was the speech by the SPÖ federal party chairman Andreas Babler and a talk by the Vienna SPÖ top candidates Doris Bures, Barbara Teiber and Heinrich Himmer. In their speeches, the candidates once again underlined the social democratic plans for a socially just Austria of the future: the right to equal opportunities and high-quality education for all children, the fair distribution of wealth, good conditions for Austria’s employees and the security of ours strong health and pension system.
“The SPÖ is committed to fair working hours, good working conditions and justice in working life. We are the loud voice of the workers in parliament,” emphasized the federal chairwoman of the GPA union and National Council candidate Barbara Teiber, referring to the basic values of social democracy. Heinrich Himmer emphasized the need for equal opportunities in education: “Every child should be given the best opportunities – regardless of where their parents live or their income. From kindergarten, to school, to apprenticeships, to university, to lifelong learning.”
The Viennese top candidate Doris Bures emphasized the indispensability of a social democratic course for the next federal government: “In the home stretch of the election campaign leading up to the National Council elections, a final, powerful push is still needed. Austria needs a strong social democratic signature again – for social fairness, equitable prosperity and sustainable responsibility.”
