Regner highlighted the right to an affordable life and the protection of democracy in dialogue activities on Europe Day
Vienna (OTS/SPW) – On the occasion of today’s Europe Day, Evelyn Regner, Vice President of the European Parliament and Vienna’s EU top candidate, exchanged views yesterday Wednesday as part of several dialogue activities, including in Favoriten at the Viktor-Adler-Markt, in the Donaustadt in the Donauzentrum and in the Innere Stadt at Schwedenplatz, with Viennese people. Regner highlighted the challenges Europe is facing: “Rising prices threaten to drive more and more people into poverty. That is why Europe-wide measures are necessary to guarantee an affordable life for everyone in a social Europe – because Europe must be fair, socially and fiscally just.”
Defend and protect democracy
Millions of people will decide in which direction Europe will develop with their vote on June 9th. This makes today’s Europe Day all the more important, as it celebrates peace and unity in Europe and draws attention to the importance of democracy, emphasized Regner. “We are determined to fight for the fundamental European values of democracy, freedom, equality, the rule of law and respect for human dignity. “Especially in times of increasing attacks from destructive right-wing parties, we defend democracy – that is our election program,” said Regner, who underlined the need for consistent measures to protect European democracy. This also includes defending women’s rights and ensuring equality: “This requires a European Charter of Women’s Rights, which sets uniform Europe-wide standards for the rights of women.”
Dance rally of the young generation
Yesterday, Regner took part in an event organized by the Young Generation at Schwedenplatz in Vienna. On this occasion, the online election campaign quiz “Who taxes the millionaire?” presented to the Young Generation Vienna, which contains over 300 questions of various levels of difficulty on a wide range of political topics. On today’s Europe Day, Evelyn Regner is taking part in the dance rally of the Young Generation Vienna at 2 p.m. in the Vienna City Park, which draws attention to the importance of a strong democracy.
