Vienna (OTS) – The officers of the Austrian Armed Forces invite you to the annual ball in the Vienna Hofburg, which will take place on January 19, 2024. The motto of the 75th ball “SoundS of Music” is based on the world-famous musical, underlines the musical diversity of the ball night and also points to the partnership with the “Vermont National Guard”. In addition to Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner and Chief of the General Staff General Rudolf Striedinger, prominent guests from home and abroad are expected.
“I am particularly pleased that we are not only connected to the Vermont National Guard by a military State Partnership Program, but also by a cultural component that we can experience at the 75th Officers’ Ball. The Officers’ Ball is always a highlight. The motto of the evening is reminiscent of the famous musical, in which the eventful story of an Austro-Hungarian officer is told, thus closing the military circle again. “I’m looking forward to another unforgettable ball night,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.
The motto of the ball is based on the famous Broadway musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, which deals with the eventful history of the Trapp family: the successful naval officer Georg Ritter von Trapp, who, giving way to the pressure of National Socialism, leaves Salzburg with his family for Vermont finds a new home and, with his family choir, becomes a successful musical ambassador for a non-existent Austria. Georg Ritter von Trapp’s granddaughter will also attend the ball with her family.
Musically, the “US Army Europe and Africa Band & Chorus”, the “40th Army Band” of the “Vermont National Guard”, the string orchestra and the gala band of the Guard Music, a women’s orchestra, a folk music ensemble and other music bands will be entertained with a wide variety of music Invite styles to dance. Carinthia’s military bandmaster, Colonel Pranter, will provide additional atmosphere on the piano with a “Tribute to Billy, Elton & Udo”.
The ball is organized by the “Alt-Neustadt” association, an association of graduates of the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt, which is also dedicated to social purposes. The Officers’ Ball is an event with a long tradition. People from different social, professional and age groups meet each other for a social get-together. The different uniforms from all over the world illustrate the embeddedness of the armed forces in Austrian society and the international community.
