On June 21st. is summer solstice. The longest day is still often the reason for large customs. The animal welfare organization Pfotenhilfe warns that many wild animals are innocently burned in the stake in such fires and die painfully. Big bunches that have been piled up for a long time are particularly problematic. Because such dead wood piles are an ideal habitat, for example for insects, mammals, birds, reptiles or amphibians. Many of them are also at risk and protected.
“Animal lovers therefore do without such a flame inferno,” said Pfotenhilfe managing director Johanna Stadler. “Who wants to be responsible for such an easily avoidable, cruel massacre in times of massive species death and increased animal welfare awareness?”
If you do not want to do without a fire, you can light freshly peated wood at a fireplace and therefore also have the advantage of grilling plug -in bread with the children, which is not possible for large firing due to the extreme heat development. “Last but not least, the danger of forest fires must also be considered, which we really have to avoid at all costs if I think sun, which is recently clouded by Canadian forest fires for days,” said Stadler. “How many animals are there is unimaginable anyway!”
