Social work for social cohesion indispensable

Under the motto “We are solidarity! We are social! We are like that!“Make social workers and SOzial pedagogues attentive to the importance of their profession, social work. At the World Social Work Day, the 18.3.2025, the Austrian professional association of social work (OBDS), together with the Austrian Society for Social Work (OGSA), training institutions and other supporters, calls for a rally at 3 p.m. at the Square of Human Rights in Vienna.

Solidarity as the heart of social work

Solidarity is not just a catchphrase in social work, but its central principle. This is also anchored in the worldwide ethical principles of the profession:

“Social workers/social workers work actively in communities and with their colleagues inside and outside the profession to build networks of solidarity that work towards change and integrative and responsible society.”

Demand for rapid implementation of the Federal Law for Social Work

Despite its system -relevant role, social work in Austria has so far lacked legal anchoring.

“We live solidarity in our daily work and thus take on an indispensable responsibility for society.
