Sobotka believes in a coalition in three to six months
Vienna (OTS) –

ÖVP politician Wolfgang Sobotka was one of the most controversial politicians in Austria as President of the National Council. In the final interview with Corinna Milborn (broadcast today at 8:00 p.m. on “Boden Seiten Live” on PULS 24) he talks about the FPÖ, his strengths and weaknesses as a politician and his personal future.

FPÖ with a lack of processing

He criticizes the FPÖ: It has not come to terms with its Nazi past; incidents such as the recent presence of Freedom Party politicians at a funeral where an SS song was sung are evidence of this.

“It’s always glorified, it’s never precise, instead of having a very clear stance. And so these personal gray areas are addressed every time. Unpleasant“, says Sobotka.

Regarding his possible successor as National Council President, FPÖ politician Walter Rosenkranz, Sobotka says: “I think that the party with the largest number of votes has the right to propose a candidate and who is to be elected by secret ballot. Walter Rosenkranz was already nominated by Parliament as Ombudsman and he carried out this office properly.”

Complicated coalition negotiations

The ÖVP has not decidedly ruled out a coalition with the FPÖ – but even after the election, ÖVP Chancellor Karl Nehammer repeatedly spoke out against FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl as chancellor.

According to Sobotka, Nehammer does not have an ultimatum for the negotiations: Governments have been formed in the past three, but also six months lasted. “In this time it will probably be possible to reach a result this time too.”
