SkiWelt Söll starts the 2024/25 winter season with electricity from its own small hydroelectric power plant SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser

Bergbahnen Söll – A sustainable investment in the energy self-sufficient future

Energy Self-sufficient operation – With the construction of our small hydroelectric power plant, we are taking a big step in this direction! For this reason, the Söll mountain railways have taken the opportunity to invest in a small hydroelectric power plant directly near the valley station

Mario Gruber, managing director of Bergbahnen Söll

Söll (OTS) By building this small hydroelectric power plant on Stampfanger Bach, the Söll mountain railways will be able to cover around 25% of the annual energy required from December 2024. If you look at the pure summer operation from May to October, thanks to this self-produced energy, both gondola lifts to the Hexenwasser and to the Hohe Salve can be operated almost completely energy self-sufficiently.

At SkiWelt Söll, resource conservation and sustainability are deeply anchored.

A heat recovery system was installed for the first time in 1988, which was renewed in 2020. In 2006, district heating was added to a local wood chipping heating plant and in 2009 pellet heating for the workshops followed. Since 2016, the Söll mountain railways, like the entire SkiWelt, have been using GPS-controlled snow depth measurement to conserve energy and water resources. Whether past or present how a sustainable ski operation can be best harmonized in terms of both ecology and economy is firmly anchored in the company philosophy of Bergbahnen Söll as well as the other SkiWelt Bergbahn companies.

Energy Self-sufficient operation – With the construction of our small hydroelectric power plant, we are taking a big step in this direction! For this reason, the Söll mountain railways have taken the opportunity to invest in a small hydroelectric power plant directly near the valley station“, says Mario Gruber, managing director of Bergbahnen Söll.

After the positive decisions from the state and the Kufstein BH, construction work could begin at the beginning of June 2024. According to planning, commissioning is scheduled to take place in December 2024.

Further e-charging stations are being planned directly at the valley station of the Söll mountain railway, which can also be powered by electricity from the small hydroelectric power station.
