ORF General Director Roland Weißmann: “ORF as a convinced partner of Austrian film”

“As a public broadcaster, ORF sees itself as a committed partner of Austrian film and, as the largest client in the domestic film and TV industry, invests around 100 million euros in Austria as a film and production location every year. In addition to the high level of audience response, the awards at the Austrian Film Prize, like this year with 16 trophies for films co-financed by the ORF as part of the film/television agreement, are another pleasing testament to this successful collaboration. Congratulations to the winners of the evening and all other nominees! Austrian films also delight viewers in the ORF programs – just in February, for example, an audience of millions traveled to ‘Greece’ together with Thomas Stipsits. But numerous Austro hits can be seen not only on linear television; we are pleased to be able to provide an extensive streaming offering on ORF ON, which includes numerous cinema and TV film highlights.”

ORF program director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz: “ORF continues to support the Austrian film industry”

“The Austrian Film Prize celebrates the diversity and creativity of our filmmakers. I warmly congratulate all nominees and all winners, and promise that the ORF will continue to stand by the Austrian film industry to bring their stories to life and to offer audiences cinema at the highest level.”

The Austrian Film Prize 2024 in ORF 1, ORF 2 and ORF III

The ORF is supporting the Austrian Film Prize again this year with a program focus. The ORF cinema magazine “Trailer.AT” (June 5, 9:50 p.m.; June 9, 7:05 p.m. and June 15, 10:35 p.m. on ORF 1; June 16, 9:05 a.m. and June 19, 1:55 p.m. on ORF III and already on ORF ON) takes a look behind the scenes of Austrian cinema in its seventh edition. After “Little Joe” and “Joy” as well as the ORF premiere of Adrian Goiginger’s ORF-co-financed drama “Märzengrund” (all available on ORF ON), ORF 2 is showing the top-class historical drama “A village defends itself” on the occasion of this year’s Austrian Film Prize ( June 5th, 11.40 p.m., ORF 2 and already on ORF ON) with, among others, Fritz Karl, Harald Windisch, Brigitte Hobmeier, Verena Altenberger, Maresi Riegner, Gerhard Liebmann, Francis Fulton-Smith, Oliver Masucci, Philipp Hochmair all about the true story of resistance fighters who rose up against the Nazi regime in Altaussee in the last days of the Second World War and thus saved the local salt mine and brutally stolen works of art from destruction. In a new issue, the cultural magazine “Heim-Kino – News from Austrian Film” (June 6, 10:20 p.m., ORF 1) reports on the highlights of the award ceremony in Vienna City Hall on the day after the glamorous gala of the 14th Austrian Film Prize and presents more spotlight on the winners. A “Culture Today Special” (June 6, 7:45 p.m., ORF III and ORF ON) takes stock of this year’s Austro-Oscars and lets award winners have their say. As “The Midwife – On Life and Death” (June 6, 12:05 a.m., ORF 2 and ORF ON), Brigitte Hobmeier finds herself in this historical drama in an existential conflict between the art of midwifery, which has been handed down over centuries, and the interests of male-dominated obstetric medicine . The multiple award-winning ORF co-financed court drama “Murer – Anatomy of a Trial” (June 7, 12:15 a.m., ORF 2 and ORF ON), which stars Alexander E. Fennon, Karl Fischer, Karl Markovics and Gerhard Liebmann, among others, is dedicated one of the biggest judicial scandals of the Second Republic – the trial against the former SA leader Franz Murer. In ORF 1, Verena Altenberger, as a drug-addicted mother, tries to create “the best of all worlds” for her son (June 11, 1:10 a.m., ORF 1 and ORF ON). Director and screenwriter Adrian Goiginger tells the story of his childhood in the award-winning drama.
