Sima/Nevrivy: Start of construction in Sinagasse/Schödlbergergasse: Grauer Platz becomes Grätzl-Schatz!

The Viennese cycle path offensive continues at high speed! In 2025, the focus is not only on large projects such as the recently completed 7km long mega bike highway north, but also particularly necessary gaps in the Viennese districts. So far there was one of these gaps in the 22nd district around the forecourt of the Goethehof. The surrounding Schödlbergergasse as well as the adjacent Sinagasse are now getting an adequate cycling infrastructure and the students and kindergarten children from Salvator School and Salvator Kindergarten are now getting an even safer school!

“Way of school is very important in Vienna, the space right in front of the school is of course a central place. Here children should be able to be safe and free in the morning and after the end of the lesson,” said mobility councilor Ulli Sima. “Therefore, Vienna continuously implements further traffic -calmed school aids – as here around the Salvator School and the Goethehof. The redesign of the Sinagasse to the bicycle road also contributes decisively to make the way to school safer and climate. In addition to security, the central concern of renovation, greening and cooling of places is, according to the motto ‘Out out of the asphalt’.”

Donaustädter district head Ernst Nevrivy adds: “Kaisermühlen is a lively, diverse district and that is exactly what we want to make visible in public space. With the new bicycle road, a safe school forecourt and the green Goethof-forake, we create more quality of life for all generations in Grätzl.”

In addition, Vienna’s most popular outdoor pool, the goose bike through the new bike path and the bicycle road are connected to the main cycle path network. So the path to the bathroom is much easier.

Safe to school and kindergarten

The Salvator Kaisermühlen education campus is located in Schödlbergergasse 20-22. No matter whether parents who bring their children to kindergarten by bike, students who drive home with scooters or publications after class or simply play in front of school, or after -school groups who want to cool off at the nearby bathing area of the imperial water – they should all get to their destination quickly, conveniently and, above all, safe.

Therefore, a particularly safe cycling infrastructure from Schüttustraße to Schödlbergerstrasse will be created here by the end of August. A 2.6 meter wide two-direction cycle path connects to the existing bike connections. The intersections are made clearer and pedestrians are made more inner -friendly and marked in color.

Goethehof forecourt becomes Grätzl-Schatz

At the forecourt of the Goethehof, which opposite the two educational institutions, it currently looks quite barren – that will change in the future! By the end of the year, a gray forecourt will be a climate-like Grätzl-Highlight with four new trees, two new perennial beds, spacious green areas and two sun sails that will also donate cool shadows in the hottest summer days. Seven benches soon invite you to treat yourself to a short break here.

You can get fresh water on a drinking hydrant or refresh yourself. The existing, non -barrier -free and dilapidated plaster is exchanged for new, light and barrier -free stone pavement in the entire space area. The space also experiences even more accessibility through a new blind control system.

Sinagasse: bicycle road and green avenue

From September, the Sinagasse will be from Schödlbergergasse to Moissigasse to the bicycle -friendly road with a traffic -calmed road. Overall, the Grätzl creates new cycling infrastructure over a length of over 400 meters, which perfectly connects to existing wheel connections. Completion is planned for spring 2026.

A tree rarely comes alone, at least with the projects of the city of Vienna! And that’s why new trees are planted in the Sinagasse and 20 pieces. Equipped with automatic irrigation, they join the existing trees, which of course are all preserved in order to donate shadows cooling together in the hot summer months.

In order to give their roots enough space for growing and at the same time remove the surface of the city, new and old trees get spacious green areas. Two wedding bushes in the Sinagasse and two raised beds on the left and right of the entrance to the library at the Goethehof will soon complement the climate desire.

Vienna’s large cycle path offensive

The large Viennese cycle path offensive is in full swing! At the end of the legislative period, the Rot-Pink city government has implemented over 250 projects and almost 100 km in the main bike path network and has already invested around EUR 130 million in the expansion of the Viennese cycling infrastructure. More than 50 km of cycling infrastructure has also been implemented in the district network. The intensive efforts pay off: the number of cyclists is constantly increasing. The proportion of the paths that are covered by bike rose to eleven percent in 2024 (in 2019 it was seven percent), as the modal split survey 2024 shows.

Get out of the asphalt record record

The out of the asphalt projects brought a record balance with 344 projects in all 23 districts in the past legislative period 2020-2025. 3,316 trees were planted, 2,745 seating was built and almost 2,000 square meters of water play created. With the historical greening offensive in Vienna, the Grätzl experienced a massive improvement in the microclimate and thus an upgrading of the quality of life.
