Silver medal at the Paralympics for army athletes

On September 4th, handbiker Thomas Frühwirth won silver in the individual time trial at the Paralympics in Paris 2024. The Army athlete was beaten by the Dutchman Jetze Plat by just 2.71 seconds. For the Styrian from the Graz Army Sports Center, it is already the fourth Paralympic silver medal, after twice in Tokyo 2021 and once in Rio 2016.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “I am very pleased with Thomas Frühwirth’s fantastic result. He did a great job and with his new medal he achieved what only very few athletes are able to do. I continue to keep my fingers crossed for all our athletes!”

The Army Sports Center has been promoting Austrian competitive sports with its eleven Army competitive sports centers since 1962. Every year, up to 495 people, including 20 in sports for the disabled, are part of the army sports support program. Army sports traditionally provide numerous participants in major sporting events such as the Olympic Games, European and World Championships. The athletes of the Federal Army have already achieved numerous successes and medals for Austria in the past.
