On September 5th, handbiker Thomas Frühwirth won silver in the road race at the Paralympics in Paris 2024. The army athlete was able to secure second place behind the Dutchman Jetze Plat. The Styrian from the Graz Army Sports Center has already won his second medal at this year’s Paralympic Games, after silver in the individual time trial.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “I am incredibly proud of Thomas Frühwirth’s fantastic performance. It fills me with great joy that his hard work and determination have paid off and have once again been rewarded with precious metal.”

The Army Sports Center has been promoting Austrian competitive sports with its eleven Army competitive sports centers since 1962. Every year, up to 495 people, including 20 in sports for the disabled, are part of the army sports support program. Army sports traditionally provide numerous participants in major sporting events such as the Olympic Games, European and World Championships. The athletes of the Federal Army have already achieved numerous successes and medals for Austria in the past.
