Despite the weather-related earlier end of the Vienna Electric Days 2024 on Friday, the organizer draws a very positive conclusion from this unique outdoor event. The Vienna Electric Days have established themselves as a “game changer” event and send a clear signal for a cross-industry dialogue in the spirit of decarbonization and climate protection. The transformation to electromobility is a key lever for reducing CO2 emissions.
“We look back with pride and joy on three exciting event days at Vienna’s Heldenplatz with many visitors interested in e-mobility. Unfortunately, we are powerless against the weather and the rain that has already fallen and is still expected made an early end to the fourth Vienna Electric Days 2024 inevitable – the safety of visitors, exhibitors and employees is the priority. I would like to thank everyone who made Austria’s largest e-mobility event possible,” says organizer Andreas Martin, Managing Director of Porsche Media & Creative, and already gives an outlook: “Nevertheless, we are optimistic about the future and are already starting planning for the Elektro Tage 2025, which will take place from September 25th to 28th at Vienna’s Rathausplatz. Because one thing is certain: the transformation to e-mobility and the fight against climate change require events like the Vienna Electric Days. They are a relevant information and discussion platform and therefore an important catalyst for implementing e-mobility.”
Visitors were able to examine the wide range of new electric cars at Vienna’s Heldenplatz and book test drives with selected electric models. There was also professional exchange on the main stage and personal and competent advice at the stands on the important future topic of e-mobility.
New electric models are a crowd puller – numerous premieres
Austria’s largest e-mobility event once again scored points this year with numerous Austrian premieres of series models and pioneering concept cars and studies. The opening of the Vienna Electric Days 2024 and the first tour including the presentation of the Austrian premieres were attended by Federal Minister Martin Kocher as a representative of the government and City Councilor for Finance Peter Hanke as a representative of the City of Vienna as well as Castle Captain Reinhold Sahl and the organizers (Porsche Media & Creative) on September 11th. – still in bright sunshine.
As part of this opening with numerous press representatives, the following Austrian and public premieres of the participating automobile brands were unveiled during a tour: Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica, Citroen e-C3, Fiat Topolino, Mercedes-Benz G 580, Mercedes-Benz EQV, Opel Frontera Electric , Porsche Macan, Škoda Elroq, Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer and Volkswagen ID.Buzz with long wheelbase. The following concept cars and pre-production models were also presented: Audi RS Q e-tron, Formula E racing car (for use in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship), Inyo Shuttle, Volkswagen ID.2all and the fully electric MUT EcoLift waste disposal vehicle .
Another highlight was the visit of long-time Audi driver Mattias Ekström, who also took part in the Dakar Rally this year with the electric Audi RS Q e-tron. Due to the weather, the discussion on electromobility and motorsport took place on Friday in a city center studio with the participation of Formula E driver Maximilian Günther.
Top-class VIP event in the Palais Niederösterreich on the opening evening
As part of the Vienna Electric Days, there were also events on the evening of September 11th. In front of around 350 invited guests in the Palais Niederösterreich, high-profile business leaders from the automotive industry provided an insight into a sustainable mobility future, which, in the unanimous opinion of the speakers, “is electric”. The traditional opening evening was an inventory analysis from various areas of the automotive industry. The opening speech by Hans Dieter Pötsch, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Porsche Holding Salzburg, was followed by three exciting keynote speeches by Luca de Meo (President of the European Automobile Association and CEO Renault Group), Gernot Döllner (Chairman of the Board of Directors AUDI AG) and Alexander Vlaskamp (CEO MAN Truck & Bus SE) as well a panel, accompanied by ORF presenter Stefan Lenglinger.
Hans Dieter Pötsch described the Vienna Electric Days as a catalyst for the transformation of our mobility world into an electric future. The basic tenor of the opening evening of the Vienna Electric Days was unanimous: the future of mobility is electric, but the transformation will take more time. All speakers in the subsequent discussion led by ORF moderator Stefan Lenglinger agreed that there are still a few miles to go and challenges to overcome on this path. The Vienna Electric Days have thus further established themselves as the perfect information and discussion platform in the spirit of decarbonization.
