Seventeen years of intensive commitment to power transmission and distribution projects across the continent commemorates the 35th anniversary of AID
Shanghai Electric (SEHK:2727, SSE:601727) is celebrating its 17th year in Africa and is proud to have contributed to the industrialization and development of power infrastructure in the region. Since 2007, the company has successfully completed 28 power projects in African countries, building 1,457.16 kilometers of transmission lines and 51 power plants and substations. These achievements have provided millions of people with reliable electricity, spurred industrial progress and improved living conditions across vibrant Africa.

Energy for Africa: A Journey of Growth and Innovation
Over the past 17 years Shanghai Electric expanded its presence from North Africa to East and West Africa and developed and highlighted a number of transmission and distribution projects, including:
- Dschibutis Electrification of the railway (2014): Shanghai Electric built a 230 kV substation and 83.85 kilometers of transmission lines to power the Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway.
- Ethiopia Transmission Network (2008) : Shanghai Electric has already completed eight major EPC projects in Ethiopia, including the BBDA 400 kV transmission line project, the Renaissance Dam transmission systems and the Ethiopia-Djibouti railway power supply. The total effort includes 1,115 kilometers of high-voltage lines and 11 substations.
- Angolan Urban Revitalization (2020): Shanghai Electric has modernized the medium and low voltage networks in Huambo and Caála, benefiting one million residents and hundreds of businesses through improved and stable access to electricity.
- Nigeria’s Network modernization: In Lagos, Shanghai Electric has modernized ten aging substations, significantly improving the reliability of electricity supply for residential and commercial users. Additionally, two critical 330/132 kV and 132/33 kV substations, Egbin substation and Makogi substation, were completed in northern Nigeria, benefiting over 500,000 residents.
