Shanghai Electric completes eight-day training program for Pakistan’s Thar Project employees

Twenty employees of Pakistan’s Thar Coalfield Block I Energy Integration Project recently completed an intensive eight-day training program in Shanghai and Beijing, China. The program, which is part of the talent development initiative of Shanghai Electric (SEHK:2727, SSE:601727), offered participants practical learning opportunities and in-depth insights to expand their skills and knowledge. This is another step in Shanghai Electric’s efforts to nurture local talent and contribute to the sustainable development of Pakistan’s energy sector.

The training participants, including project managers and technical staff, took part in a series of activities aimed at providing them with the latest knowledge on energy and industrial development. Highlights of the program included seminars on Shanghai Electric’s corporate culture and advanced technologies, as well as visits to the Shanghai Boiler Works manufacturing facility. The group also visited Shanghai Electric’s headquarters, where they discussed the company’s vision Create Our Future Together and deepened their understanding of the company’s approach to innovation and collaboration.

Das Thar Coalfield Block 1 Energy Integration Projectwhich has been running since February 2023, plays a critical role in meeting Pakistan’s energy needs with an annual production capacity of nine billion kilowatt hours, powering nearly four million households. More than just an energy provider, the project reflects Shanghai Electric’s commitment to promoting sustainable growth and social progress.

By introducing targeted initiatives to improve opportunities for women, Shanghai Electric has collaborated with the project to create a supportive and equal environment, contributing to significant progress in the integration of women in the workplace in the region. The company received another award, the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Award 2023, presented by the Federation of Employers of Pakistan and the International Labor Organization.

Shanghai Electric’s sustainability efforts were also recognized with an award, the Contributors to Shared Prosperity, at the 16th Annual CSR Summit in August 2023. This event was held to mark the tenth anniversary of the opening of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
