Austria signed the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 16 years ago and committed itself to making it easier for people with disabilities to fully participate in the community.
Although comprehensive personal assistance is essential for many people with disabilities, Vienna declined to participate in the pilot project to expand and harmonize personal assistance.
Accession would expand the circle of people with various disabilities who can use personal assistance and end precarious employment relationships. The federal government would have promised 52 million euros in funding for this. Nevertheless, Vienna decided against joining.
At a press conference, it will be explained why the City of Vienna should rethink its approach.
Press conference: Independent living must also be possible in Vienna!
On the podium: Roswitha Schachinger (Vice President of the Austrian Council for the Disabled), Martin Ladstätter (Chairman BIZEPS – Center for Self-Determined Living) and Michael Fink (Chairman of the Vienna Monitoring Center for the Rights of People with Disabilities).
