Vienna (OTS) – Peter Seilern, founder of Seilern Investment Management and the VSGF announced the first awarding of a prize for the best dissertation at this renowned research and teaching institution. “It is a particular honor for me,” says Peter Seilern, “to add a new, essential piece to the puzzle to our existing collaborations with international universities with Vienna, the city in which my professional career began.”
The Vienna Graduate School of Finance (VGSF) is a PhD program that has been run jointly by the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS), the University of Vienna and WU since 2005. “With the Vienna Graduate School of Finance, we have pooled our strengths and created a PhD program in finance that is internationally successful,” says Alexander Mürmann, professor at the WU Institute for Finance, Banking and Insurance and program director of the VGSF: “The approval The doc.funds funding of 2.3 million euros confirms this.
“
“In the event of a crisis, financial markets are of central importance through the reallocation of capital,” explains Univ. Prof. Josef Zechner, doctoral supervisor of the award winner and spokesman for the VGSF: “Our PhDs research how social responsibility of investors can influence business decisions, to what extent catastrophe risks are reflected in securities prices and how operational financing structures affect financial market stability in crises.
“
The excellent doctoral student Alessandro Meloni completed his master’s degree in Rome and Genoa and studied at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and at the Institute for Finance at the University of Vienna. His work was selected by a jury of experts as the best in its field. He is currently an assistant professor at Ohio State University.
The title of the dissertation is “Essays on Empirical Asset Pricing and Macro-Finance” and is dedicated, among other things, to the topic of portfolio management depending on consumer expectations. A topic that currently hits the nerve of the times, as in times of volatile stock markets, the issue of pricing shares is of primary importance.
Peter Seilern: “This award is intended to recognize those who conduct groundbreaking research in finance. We are convinced that this will enable us to stimulate further innovation and research. The insights gained from institutions like VGSF are instrumental in improving our collective understanding of the economic forces that influence our lives. Melone’s work reflects not only his commitment and intellectual abilities, but also the high standards of the VGSF.”
