“Tracks East” celebrates its 100th edition with the episode “Forbidden! Music between the fronts“(from April 4 on ARTE.TV and on April 8th at 00:25 on April). Since its start in June 2022 after the Russian full invasion of Ukraine, art and cultural workers tell of the shock waves that triggered the attack in the post-Soviet area, and the effects on their life and work. Except for Eastern Europe, the series looks at Israel and Gaza – wherever the work of creative and artists. Perspectives and realities of life of those who shape the culture of tomorrow
No westplaining: “Tracks East” reflects interior views and says goodbye to the attitude of explaining the world to the audience how we see “in the West”. Each edition invites you to experience the perspectives and realities of life of those who shape the culture of tomorrow. The makers do not pretend to have answers to the geopolitical and social areas of tension of our time – contradictions are welcome. The life situation, in which many creative people find themselves, is also confusing. “Tracks East” is primarily curious. This is also confirmed by “Tracks East” author Vladlena Savenkova from Russia: “I became part of the East team track to make my contribution to this war – and against many others. Also against the one who rages in ourselves. To tell about what I know best (…). To finally accept the east. And to tell you about it.“
In 2022, the magazine was nominated for the German TV Award and the Grimme Prize, in 2024 it was awarded the New York Festivals and the German Television Prize. In 2025, 34 episodes are planned – 26 realized by ZDF/Arte, 8 from the MDR. The last show before the summer break is on June 24th, then the series starts again on September 2.
