Winter wind creates an Advent atmosphere and lots of electricity
Schrick in the Weinviertel (OTS) – Shortly before Christmas, the Schrick wind farm presents itself in full Advent spirit. Four wind turbines were colorfully illuminated in the evening to symbolize the four candles of an Advent wreath. The art installation was carried out by the regional wind power operator ÖKOENERGIE from Wolkersdorf and IG Windkraft. “With this campaign, we would particularly like to thank the wind pioneer community of Schrick, which has been committed to clean wind power generation for more than two decades,” emphasizes Richard Kalcik, Managing Director of ÖKOENERGIE. The art installation also highlights the importance of wind power during the holidays. Because winter is one of the windiest times of the year. Klaus Rockenbauer, an internationally award-winning photographer, had the idea for this art installation. “Especially at Christmas, it is personally important to me to draw attention to wind energy, which is an essential part of the way out of the climate crisis,” said the artist.
Shortly before Christmas, the Weinviertel wind farm Schrick presents itself in full Advent spirit. Four wind turbines were colorfully illuminated in the evening to symbolize the four candles of an Advent wreath. The pre-Christmas art installation was carried out by ÖKOENERGIE from Wolkersdorf, the operator of the wind turbines, and IG Windkraft, the wind industry interest group. “With the art installation we want to raise awareness that the winter wind brings a lot of clean energy for the holidays,” says Manfred Schamböck, managing director of ÖKOENERGIE, because wind power generates two thirds of its electricity in the winter half of the year. “This year too, the 1,400 Austrian wind turbines will provide a lot of energy during the holidays,” emphasizes Stefan Moidl, managing director of IG Windkraft. At the same time, ÖKOENERGIE would like to thank the people of the wind pioneer community with this campaign, who made the construction of this wind farm possible 22 years ago. “For two decades, this wind farm has been generating electricity not only for the community of Schrick, but for the entire region, especially during the cold season,” explains Martin Berger, Managing Director of ÖKOENERGIE Project Development.
Contemplative wind farm lighting with lots of clean energy
Four wind turbines from the Schrick wind farm were illuminated for five hours. The gondolas and wind turbine blades shone like candle flames in the evening sky, forming an Advent wreath. The art installation was implemented by the Weinviertel event company Your Solutions and Lukas Pawek, energy transition event manager. “Putting the beautiful side of renewables at the center of the picture is something that is very important to me personally,” says Pawek: “I am convinced that with a positive view of the energy transition, we can put the climate crisis behind us more quickly.” The LED Spotlights were operated directly with a small part of the electricity that the wind turbines generated at the same time. During the campaign, the four wind turbines produced 76 times more electricity than was needed for lighting.
The idea for this campaign came from Klaus Rockenbauer, a long-time service technician for the wind turbine manufacturer Enercon and a gifted, internationally award-winning photographer. “As an enthusiastic wind power technician, I often marvel at the great aesthetics of the wind turbines. As a new father, I now also have to worry about ensuring a good life for my daughter. Especially at Christmas, it was very important to me to showcase wind energy symbolically for the urgently needed climate protection,” explains Rockenbauer.
