Schneider Electric calls for the rapid introduction of smart grids to accelerate the energy transition

Paris (ots/PRNewswire) Schneider Electricthe leader in the digital transformation of energy management and energy automation, today called on energy decision-makers to prioritize digital improvements to realize the potential of more sustainable, stable, efficient and flexible Power grids of the future to use.

  • Energy politicians worldwide are urged to favor intelligent power grids
  • Urgent need for improvement to achieve net zero targets
  • New innovations introduced at Enlit Europe 2023

The urgent call comes at a time when leaders from around the world are gathering COP28 in Dubai gather to accelerate climate action, while at the same time key players in the electricity industry gather at the Enlit Europe 2023 in Paris, France, to discuss transformative solutions for Europe’s electricity systems.

Schneider Electric experts attending Enlit Europe 2023 argue that aging power grid infrastructure is holding back the energy transition and suggest that greater grid automation in smart grids operated by smart electric utilities can form the future of a low-carbon energy sector.

“The real challenge of the energy transition is to increase the performance and efficiency of the electricity grid, and to do it in the right way, by connecting more renewable energy to the grid while ensuring that emissions do not increase in parallel,” said Frederic Godemel, senior vice president of Power Systems and Services at Schneider Electric. “We are simply not moving quickly enough toward flexible, digitalized power grids to make this possible, even though we already have the necessary equipment and software technologies. Government and industry must answer this call to action: upgrade or risk failing to meet our net zero targets.”

At Enlit 2023, Schneider Electric unveiled new innovations that enable electric utilities to deploy digitalization of the power grid with agility and provide better collaboration between all players in the electricity value chain. These include:

  • RM AirSeT – new clean air solution for France’s national electricity distribution network: AirSeT’s clean air technology eliminates the need for the intensive greenhouse gas SF6 from medium-voltage (MV) electrical devices. RM AirSeT is the first of a new generation of gas-insulated switchgear to be tested on France’s medium-voltage network. As part of its certification process, Enedis, Europe’s largest distribution network operator, has selected Schneider Electric as a supplier of SF6-free equipment for the French network’s substations.
  • EcoStruxure Microgrid Flex: A first in the industry, which is the microgrid configuration standardized and simplified, to accelerate the introduction and drastically shorten project durations. Following an initial market launch earlier this year, Microgrid Flex will be expanded to additional select markets in Europe.
  • EcoStruxure Transformer Expert: An easy-to-use IoT sensor and software analytics subscription for oil transformers that helps monitor transformer health and optimize maintenance using condition-based monitoring.
  • EcoStruxure Power Automation System: The protection relay PowerLogic P7, its digital twin and the latest EcoStruxure Power Automation System Engineering and EcoStruxure System Management tools enable a virtual representation of a substation throughout its entire life cycle, for more reliable power grids, lower maintenance costs and optimized energy management.
  • Neue cloudbasierte EcoStruxure Distributed Energy Resource (DERMS): Now available on Microsoft Azure, EcoStruxure DERMS manages distributed energy resources (electric vehicles, energy storage and rooftop solar) to meet rapidly growing capacity needs and enable rapid deployment with flexible customer experiences.
  • A new era of a digital grid platform: The latest releases of EcoStruxure Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), scheduled for release in January 2024, and EcoStruxure ArcFM bring the digital network platform one step closer to a converged, data-centric architecture that leverages a single network model to increase efficiency Reduce costs, improve reliability and network efficiency.
