“Nehammer is now openly announcing the next ÖVP betrayal of our local farmers, after he has already consciously allowed the EU renaturation law to be passed, which is a real ‘farmer extermination law’. This is a foretaste of what our farmers will face with an ‘Austro-loser traffic light’,” said FPÖ General Secretary NAbg today. Michael Schnedlitz sharply criticized the current chancellor and ÖVP leader after he announced to the “Krone” that he did not want to agree to the political part of the Mercosur agreement: “Conversely, this means that he was involved in von der Leyen’s ‘voting trickery’ I definitely agree with the trading part. But this is exactly where the attacks on the existence of our farmers are being launched! This threatens to flood the domestic market with cheap South American products and our farmers, who are subject to strict regulations, will be exposed to unequal competition, as much lower environmental and quality criteria apply in South America. Betrayed, sold and also mocked – that is the vile way Nehammer and his ÖVP treat the peasantry!”
With his voting behavior, the current Chancellor would also be ignoring a resolution of the EU subcommittee of the National Council of September 18, 2019, which obliges the federal government to reject the Mercosur agreement and which is still valid. “This would put Nehammer on the same level as the green arbitrary minister Gewessler. The ‘bad political sleight of hand’ by the EU Commission President, who is a product of the black-red-pink-green unity party, with a two-part vote does not change the content of the Mercosur agreement, which threatens the existence of our farmers and is harmful to consumers,” said Schnedlitz further and also saw a “false game” at the ÖVP farmers’ association: “Top officials there are making incendiary speeches against Mercosur, while you ÖVP party leader wants to agree to its catastrophic content. Apparently the ÖVP not only wants to accelerate the ‘farmer death’ caused by its wrong policies, but also shamefully plays the farmers who are struggling for their existence for fools!”
The FPÖ is the only political force that stands closely on the side of local farmers and therefore consistently rejects the Mercosur trade agreement: “We libertarians know what our farmers do for food supply, landscape care and as cultural preservers for our homeland and our population. Therefore, we will not watch for a second how the ÖVP destroys their economic basis for survival with their loyalty to the EU and their obsession with power!”
