Those who don’t have a driver’s license find it difficult to gain a foothold in the job market in some professions. Especially if the place of work is difficult to reach by public transport
AK President Andreas Stangl
Linz (OTS) – Those who don’t have a driver’s license find it difficult to gain a foothold in some professions. But what do you do if the exam doesn’t work? The AK Upper Austria supports young people with learning difficulties on the way to getting a driving license with the “ScheinOnMe” offer as part of the training offensive. The young people prepare well for the exam with learning support, coaching and advice. The reasons why people fail the driving test are also structural.
Three out of ten people fail the Class B theoretical driving test. This is shown by a statistical analysis by the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology. One of the reasons: In order to pass the test, many driving license applicants memorize the questions – and often give the wrong answers in order to pass the test according to the exclusion principle. The PISA results also show that a good quarter of 15 to 16 year olds cannot process unfamiliar texts of moderate length and complexity without hints or instructions. In addition, there are learning and reading difficulties, unstructured learning behavior and test anxiety.
“ScheinOnMe” is aimed at young people who need support in acquiring a B driving license, are under 29 years old and live in Upper Austria. The prerequisite is that you need the B driving license in connection with your job and want to complete it out of your own motivation. As part of “ScheinOnMe”, support teachers give young people targeted learning support to prepare for the theoretical exam. They also offer coaching to promote self-competence, reduce exam anxiety and accompany you on the way to getting your driving license. Jugend am Werk GmbH carries out the “ScheinOnMe” project on behalf of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor.

“, says AK President Andreas Stangl.
The reasons why people fail the driving test are not just on a personal level. Therefore, additional alternatives in the form of simulation tests are tested as part of the offer. Other approaches include dividing the exam into several sub-exams or holding it orally. After all, the exam includes 1,486 questions for the Class B driving license, from which up to 80 questions are asked in the multiple-choice procedure. The project is continuously coordinated and scientifically supported by an advisory board of experts from the department. The results should enable long-term improvements for young people when entering the world of work.
With the training offensive, the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor supports young people in entering working life and in their professional careers. As part of the AK Training Fund, organizations can submit projects for funding that support young people in completing their educational journey successfully. The current call ends on April 28th.
