Schauspiel school meeting 2025 at the University of Mozarteum: “Get out of the bubble”

From June 22nd to 28th, 2025, around 200 acting students from 18 universities from Germany, Austria and Switzerland gather for the national competition of German -speaking acting students at the University of Mozarteum Salzburg. The host is the Thomas Bernhard Institute – and that sets a clear sign: “Get out of the bubble”.

The festival does not see itself as a separate industry event, but consciously opens up to the city. Students and teachers invite you to theater performances, workshops, conversations, walks – and to surprising encounters. Cards also specifically go to people who otherwise rarely come to the theater. Students from Salzburg are invited and hold their own summer camp as part of the festival. Walks lead off the postcard idyll through another Salzburg – for example from the perspective of homeless or in the footsteps of Thomas Bernhard. And in Café Bazar, the audience meets with students and teachers at the cross -generational speed dating.

The drama school meeting becomes open week – in, with and for Salzburg. “No closed society, no elite circling, but a dialogue between young art and urban reality. Because acting means far more than just learning roles. Anyone who takes this profession often goes on a nomadic path: changing engagements, new cities, new challenges – and opportunities. It is all the more important to be able to realize what is under the surface, what people are talking about – and what is talking about Salzburg. For drama at the University of Mozarteum.

Out of the bubble does not mean deny the place – on the contrary. Salzburg is more than a backdrop. The drama school meeting wants to be visible, set impulses, stimulate exchange – about how theater can come into contact with society and can be lived today.

A central component of the annual meeting is the competition of the drama schools with their theater productions of students of the higher semester – combined with networking, feedback and discussion. Prices will be awarded by the German Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Seniors, Women and Youth as well as the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, the AUSTEMBLE Award (organized by the European Theater Academy), the Max Reinhart Seminar, the Art University Graz and the University of Mozarteum. The jury consists of the actors Valentina Schüler, Camill Jamal and Florian Tröbinger as well as the director Christine Eder and Sahar Rahimi.

This meeting has been held annually at another institution since 1990 – most recently at the University of Mozarteum in 2007 with a shortened version of “The Excesses” by Arnolt Bronnen. The students of the University of Mozarteum take part with “everyone”. The overall 19 Production will be experienced in the Max Schlereth Saal (renamed Maria Kalesnikava Saal this week in Maria Kalesnikava Saal), Mirabellplatz 1, in the Theater im Kunstquartier, Paris-Lodron-Straße 2a and in the former Cineplexx City Center.

Tickets for external audiences are very limited and are awarded by the students on request to act.
