Sales record in the third year: almost 57,000 VOR KlimaTickets

In 2023 alone, the number of VOR KlimaTickets increased by 38 percent

Lower Austria/Burgenland/Vienna (OTS) At the end of December 2023, around 57,000 VOR KlimaTickets were in circulation. This corresponds to an increase of 38% compared to the previous year. The cheap VOR KlimaTickets offer passengers access to increasingly improved public transport in the eastern region. The continued increase in demand for the tickets introduced in autumn 2021 underlines the successful path to the mobility transition taken by VOR: The combination of improved offerings and cheap tickets with easier access to public transport in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland continues to be well received by people. In addition to the VOR KlimaTickets, there are more than 154,000 KlimaTickets Austria and around 14,000 VOR annual route tickets in circulation in the eastern region. The 200,000 threshold of KlimaTickets sold in the VOR was exceeded as early as September 2023.

The VOR Climate Tickets – Region for Lower Austria and Burgenland as well metropolitan area for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland – were introduced shortly before the KlimaTicket Austria in October 2021. Vienna established the €365 annual card back in 2012, making it a pioneer in affordable public transport. Especially to meet the needs of many passengers from Burgenland, there is also the combination of VOR KlimaTicket Region and KlimaTicket Steiermark, which is funded with € 223. The current record number of VOR KlimaTickets sold shows a continued unbroken trend towards even more public transport in the eastern region, which is driving the mobility transition with around 60% of domestic passengers.

City Councilor for Finance Peter Hanke (Vienna): Backbone of the mobility transition
“Well-developed and reliable public transport is a prerequisite for the necessary mobility transition towards fewer emissions and a better quality of life. In the eastern region, which has grown together economically and in terms of transport technology, VOR KlimaTickets ensure easier access to public transport. Last but not least, the cheap tickets and the excellent public transport offer make Vienna an internationally respected model metropolis.”

LH deputy Udo Landbauer (Lower Austria): high-quality offerings and affordable tariffs as success factors
“Public transport must be tailored to people’s needs. This means that buses, trains and other forms of public transport must run when and where they are needed. If a corresponding offer is also accompanied by low fares such as the VOR KlimaTickets – i.e. people can get from A to B reliably and cheaply – public transport will also be well received.

State Transport Councilor Heinrich Dorner (Burgenland): Regional solutions for people
Our mobility offer is characterized by the interaction of tailor-made regional solutions such as our BAST – the Burgenland shared call taxi – with supra-regional offers such as coordinated bus and train lines and a favorable tariff system. This means our passengers benefit from affordable, comprehensive public transport.”

BEFORE management Karin Zipperer and Wolfgang Schroll:
Key industry for implementing mobility and climate change
“With around 30,000 employees and 30 partner companies, public transport in the eastern region is not only a key industry for the business location, but also for the implementation of the mobility transition. That’s why we’re constantly developing our offering to offer people exactly the mobility solutions they need every day. The new record number of VOR KlimaTickets sold is an important milestone on the way to an environmentally and climate-friendly mobility system.”

Public transport in the eastern region as a catalyst for the mobility transition
Around 60% of domestic public transport passengers currently travel in the VOR, and this is where significant decisions are being made towards the mobility transition. Around 30 bus and rail transport companies in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland provide a total of more than 250 million km of high-quality transport services per year on 920 routes. The ongoing success of public transport in the eastern region is not only a catalyst for the mobility transition towards lower energy consumption and CO2 emissions, but also enables people to continue to have affordable and safe mobility, especially in times of rising prices.
