Safer Internet Day 2024 – Austria is joining in!

Call for participation in the 21st International Day of Action on February 6, 2024

Vienna (OTS) The international Safer Internet Day will take place for the 21st time on February 6, 2024. Under the motto “Together for a better internet” everything revolves around the safe and responsible use of digital media. The EU initiative Saferinternet.at, together with the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and the Federal Ministry of Finance, is calling for people to actively participate in Safer Internet Day 2024 with their own projects.

The Internet has long since become an integral part of our everyday lives. However, many people are not clear about the consequences of their own actions online – this applies to adults, but especially to young people.

Youth State Secretary Claudia Plakolm: “With initiatives like Saferinternet.at we strengthen the digital skills of young girls and boys. The Internet must not be a space of radicalization, but must be a space of education, credible information and social coexistence – and not of division. Digital media are an irreplaceable part of our lives and I am glad that with Safer Internet Day we are focusing on how to use them correctly.

Security is one of the six competence areas that we are specifically promoting with the digital competence offensive launched this year. Safe use of digital media requires basic knowledge as well as constant awareness. Safer Internet Day is the ideal occasion to draw attention to this basic digital competence,” adds Digital State Secretary Florian Tursky.

More than 100 countries worldwide take part in Safer Internet Day. The international day of action, which will be celebrated on February 6, 2024, has the motto “Together for a better internet”. Whether children, young people, legal guardians, schools, companies or politicians: everyone can make their contribution to a safe Internet – be it by treating each other with respect, promoting media literacy, providing high-quality offers for children and young people, and developing safe products or the creation of appropriate legal framework conditions.
