SACHER ARTISTS’ COLLECTION ー MORE THAN ONE MILLION EUROS DONATE
The famous wooden box of the Original Sacher Torte has been designed annually since 2009 with a selected work of art for the limited Artists’ Collection. This social initiative has already presented works by artists such as Georg Baselitz, Hermann Nitsch, Erwin Wurm and Gottfried Helnwein. The proceeds from the sale of the limited edition go to a selected charitable project each year. A total of over 1 million euros has already been donated. These funds have supported numerous charitable projects, including BONsurprise, DEBRA Austria for the Butterfly Children and Herzkinder Austria. These projects have made a decisive contribution to improving the quality of life of many people and have enabled important research work. This year the proceeds will benefit research into neurodevelopmental disorders.
ROBERT LONGO ー THE MASTER OF HYPERREALISM AND THE DISPLAY OF POWER
Robert Longo is a versatile artist, known as a painter, draftsman, sculptor and photographer. Particularly noteworthy are his hyper-realistic large-format charcoal drawings, for which he has received worldwide recognition. These works are characterized by a dynamic play of shadow and light and impressively represent concepts of power, be it in nature, politics or history. His works are in the collections of renowned museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London and the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris. The Albertina Museum in Vienna is presenting a retrospective of Longo’s drawings, which will be on view from September 2024 to January 2025.
An image from Robert Longo’s series “Kings” (2010-2014) can be seen on the box this year. This series explores the relationship between humans and nature, with the tiger serving as a powerful symbol of power. For the Sacher Artists’ Collection, Longo gave the original Sacher cake a unique artistic touch. Sacher co-owner Alexandra Winkler comments enthusiastically: “Robert Longo’s works are icons of our time, just like our original Sacher cake.”
SUPPORTING NEUROLENTECH RESEARCH ON AUTISM AND EPILEPSY
