Cardinal Christoph Schönborn was pleased about the visit of the star singers from the Inzersdorf parish, who brought the Christmas message of peace and blessings for the New Year on behalf of around 85,000 star singers throughout Austria: “I am proud that the start of the star singing takes place here every year. It is very refreshing to see so many children and young people tirelessly going door to door. Star singing is a really big act of solidarity and the willingness to give is very important. A big thank you to everyone who helps and to those who support.”

Star singing – solidarity in action
During star singing, the star singers not only bring blessings from door to door, but also send a powerful sign of solidarity. The donations collected support around 500 projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The focus is on education, access to clean water and the promotion of children’s rights. This year’s focus is on children and young people in Nepal. Many of them suffer from poverty, violence and exploitation. Thanks to the Sternsingen donations, they receive protection, care and education – and with it the chance for a better and self-determined future.
Star singing: combining tradition and responsibility
The star singers have been traveling in Austria for over 70 years to promote global justice through their efforts. Last year alone, with the support of the Austrian population, they collected a record sum of 19.5 million euros. In total, an impressive 540 million euros have been raised for people in need since 1954.
The next star singing highlights
After the start with Cardinal Schönborn, the star singers’ journey continues. On December 30th, Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will receive royal delegations from all over Austria at the Hofburg, and on January 1st, Austrian star singers from the Lochau parish in Vorarlberg will be welcomed by Pope Francis in Rome, where they will take part in the New Year’s service.
