Rotkreuz district office Korneuburg-a visionary lighthouse project

Korneuburg/Vienna (ots) –

With the new construction of the Korneuburg Red Cross district office, a showcase project in terms of sustainability was created, which at the same time optimizes all processes for the operations of the “lifesaver”. The district office organizes and does the emergency services and patient transport in 20 municipalities in the Korneuburg district. In addition, regional- such as health and social services, “eating at home”- and national services such as training, disaster protection, events are offered.

The non-cellar, three-storey administration building as well as the vehicle hall are built in solid construction according to plans by Hoffmann-Janz ZT. Harald Kuster, FIN – Kuster Energielsungen GmbH, designed the complex building technology including the conception of component activation. In combination with renewable energies, the storage capacity of concrete is used for heating and cooling – the groundwater and the sun make their contribution to energy self -sufficient. The building has been in operation for around three years – the open error culture pushed the optimizations and provides a lot of valuable knowledge. A total of 300 sensors provide data from the system every three minutes.

The conclusion: The use of component activation is also possible and promising for complex projects with very different requirements for the HKLS system (heating, cooling, ventilation, hot water supply). To raise the potential of the system and the introduction to the operation of it, qualified operating accompaniment makes sense during the first two years. The costs of this accompaniment pay off by the achievable savings.

One euro energy costs per square meter

Felix Friembichler, former managing director of the Association of the Austrian cement industry, acted as a building owner from the first second in the project. Christoph Stadtschmitzer, district office manager of the Red Cross, agreed with Felix Friembichler: it should be a particularly sustainable building. The construction went smoothly, a challenge was the optimization of the building services as part of the accompanying monitoring: “In 2020, the electricity costs for HKLs were around 6,000 euros for half the year of operation – we complete the entire year 2024 with 3,569 euros,” says Friembichler.

The costs for the entire HKLS system are recorded, and it is also taken into account that more PV current is obtained in summer than required for the need for the HKLS system. This is consumed to be full by other operation (IT, lighting, heating of the vehicles, etc.). “The seasonal overhang of PV current is credited to the HKLS system-the fictitious price with this counter-billing is set with 20 cents/kWh,” said Friembichler. Fixed to a square meter of usable space, energy costs result from one euro per year. The district office is always ready for use – and if it has to be, completely energy self -sufficient.
