Greens: SPÖ motorway plans through Lobau do not fit with nature conservation
Vienna (OTS) – “Once again, the SPÖ is using big words to show that it is lacking in action alone,” said Green Party environmental spokesperson Astrid Rössler, commenting on recent demands from SPÖ party leader Andreas Babler regarding a national action plan for renaturation. “Firstly, a national plan would be part of the renaturation law at EU level. Babler’s SPÖ state governors unanimously blocked approval here in April. Secondly, this demand does not fit in at all with the SPÖ’s plans to build a motorway through the nature reserve in Lobau. And thirdly, there is already a biodiversity strategy. The SPÖ should actually know that. Instead of attracting attention with fake environmental policies, action is needed. Unfortunately, there are only beautiful but empty words from the social democrats. “But our environment has none of that,” says Rössler.
