Since its founding on August 3, 1989 in Hamburg, the dpa subsidiary has developed into an internationally active communications service provider. Today the company employs over 135 people at five locations in Germany and Switzerland. Over the past decades, news aktuell has continuously expanded its product and service portfolio for communications professionals from companies, organizations and agencies and has established itself as a reliable and innovative partner for the communications industry.

news aktuell supports companies, organizations and agencies in publishing their PR content. As a player in the communications market for decades, the company has made a network of news agencies, media outlets, journalists and content partners in more than 170 countries accessible to PR managers over the past 35 years. Communication managers make their original content visible to all media types via the ots distribution network and the media database and PR software zimpel.
Since the launch of ots, over four million reports have been distributed, and the zimpel database now includes 612,000 contacts with media professionals worldwide. With an average of 12.2 million hits per month, the news aktuell press portal is now one of the PR portals with the highest reach in Germany.

1989-2024: From the fax to the internet age
news aktuell was founded on August 3, 1989 by Carl-Eduard Meyer in Hamburg. The first press releases on behalf of the customer were sent by fax. In 1994 the dpa German Press Agency took over the company. In the years that followed, news aktuell set important milestones with the introduction of the digital distribution services Originaltextservice (ots) and Originalbildservice (obs) as well as the development of Presseportal.de. At the beginning of the new millennium, the company expanded by opening offices in Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich and Düsseldorf and founded news aktuell (Schweiz) AG.
Another milestone was the takeover of Zimpel-Media-Daten GmbH in 2013 and the expansion of the journalist database and PR software zimpel. In the following years, the portfolio was expanded in the areas of native advertising and media monitoring.
news aktuell has established itself in the communications industry with several event formats, including the PR-Bild Award as well as studies and industry surveys such as the PR and media trend monitor.
After founder Carl-Eduard Meyer left, Edith Stier-Thompson and Frank Stadthoewer took over the management of news aktuell in 2014. Petra Busch and Vithunan Lingeswaran have been leading the company as the new management duo since December 2023.
